Materials & Care
Guide
A little care keeps your lighting looking as good as the day it arrived. Always switch off the power and let bulbs cool completely before cleaning.
Glass & crystal
Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfiber cloth. For a deeper clean, remove the glass if possible and wash it in warm water with a drop of mild dish soap, then dry it fully before refitting. Avoid ammonia-based or abrasive cleaners.
Rattan, wicker & natural fibers
Dust with a soft brush or a vacuum on its lowest setting with a brush attachment. Keep woven shades away from moisture and direct, prolonged sunlight, which can dry or fade natural fibers. Use the bulb type and wattage listed on the product page.
Fabric & paper shades
Use a lint roller or a soft brush to remove dust. Spot-clean fabric gently with a barely damp cloth. Never soak a shade.
Metal finishes
Wipe brass, black, chrome and painted finishes with a soft, dry or lightly damp cloth. Avoid metal polishes and abrasive pads, which can strip protective coatings. Natural brass may gently darken over time. That patina is part of its character.
Outdoor lights
- Wipe fixtures a few times a year to remove dust, pollen and cobwebs.
- Rinse lightly with fresh water if you live near the coast. Salt air can affect finishes faster.
- Keep solar panels clean and unshaded so they charge fully.
- Check seals and mounting screws at the start of each season.
LED lights
Integrated LEDs don't need bulb changes. Keep vents and heat sinks free of dust so the LEDs run cool and last longer.
